The Challenge:
Central Farm Service was dealing with an outdated agronomy facility at the end of its life, and decided to retire it. In designing a new modern agronomy facility at Delavan, they came to Kahler Automation for help on improving efficiencies and reducing manpower requirements in the face of labor challenges.
The Solution:
Much of the answer to CFS’s challenges came in the form of LOADPASS, Kahler’s go-to solution for ag businesses looking to optimize logistics, improve communication, and enhance operational efficiency for loading and unloading bulk liquid and dry products.
Their “wish list” for the new facility was to offer 24/7 unstaffed operation and get trucks through fast. At the old facility big lines would form, with staff on their feet all day going truck-to-truck to manually figure out batches, ensuring loads were ready, hitting the start button, and running back to the office to retrieve tickets.
That inefficiency is eliminated for CFS in Delavan with LOADPASS, which guides drivers through the loadout process, from order staging through ticket delivery. The mobile app generates a QR code that is scanned on-site, eliminating the need to punch order numbers into a keypad from the truck cab. Facility and bay access allows drivers to loadout product any time of day or night to fit their operation’s needs, regardless of business hours staffing; drivers have access to everything required to fulfill their order and get on their way. Tickets are full-page printouts with detailed information on each load.
The Bottom Line:
“It exceeded expectations,” said agronomy operations manager Todd Polkow on the impact of LOADPASS in Delavan. He noted that they’re down to just 10-12 minutes in getting a semi in and out of the facility, maximizing efficiencies for CFS and allowing their growers to be efficient in their operations as well.
